Barcode scanner (or other solution) to scan ID cards?

Hello,

Can the Barcode Scanner scan and recognize an Identity Card? Like a drivers
license or even a business card?

I'm looking for a solution that can recognize an ID card so that the image
can be saved and later uploaded to a server via a REST API.

I know Card.io has this solution for credit cards and Lemon Wallet uses
Card.io for it's ID recognition.

Has anyone tried to accomplish this?
