Hi,
Android is a simple OS, and as such, it seems a waste to use it on a
relatively new laptop/Desktop which are capable of running a full-fledged
operating systems without any problem.
I have three laptops. One is an HP Pavilion dv3510nr dual-core 2.0 ghz
processor with 4 gigs of ram and a 320 gig HD. It runs KitKat 4.4.2 just
fine but I would never dream of exchanging Ubuntu 12.04 LTS for KitKat. It
would seem too much of a step down plus I would be giving up too
much...like transcoding video files for example.
I also have two Sony laptops (VGN-S470 1.73 ghz 1.5 gigs ram 80 gig HD and
an S360 1.70 ghz 1 gig ram 80 gig HD). Each has the non-sse3 Pentium M
processor yet both are well suited to run an Android OS at least as far as
specs go. I can run the Android-x86 4.0.4 Thinkpad iso version on them,
with acceptable results, but that's all.
I know this has been stated before, but, IMO, I think more consideration
should be given to development by the Android-x86 team for non-sse3
processor because that's where it would actually be used/needed the most.
Too many Linux distros are turning a blind-eye towards non-pae/sse3
laptops/Desktops and it all seems such a waste for a still perfectly good
piece of hardware.
Thanks for your time.
Have a good day.
