Hi,
Here’s what I’m trying to achieve in layman’s terms.
· I have MapInfo professional.
· I want to create a thematic map.
· The data needs to correspond to 'sea regions' - not regions on
land.
· I have lat/long co-ordinates to mark out the sea regions for.(see
image)
· The specific data to create the thematic map is on an excel file.
Some questions...
*Creating sea regions/areas.*
Is the best practise to create a polygon area for each of my sea area's?
From my first image you'll see I have points plotted which is a tab file.
These are the boundary points for each region. In the second image you'll
see what I've started doing, which is creating a polygon shape, which
squares off the area. Am I going down the correct way of doing things?
Using the polygon tool to edge around the coast is a tad tedious, but I’m
not too interested in getting a smooth finish as when zoomed out, it looks
OK. In the layer control window, there isn’t an independent layer for the
polygon shape I’m drawing? I was thinking about laying the image of the UK
over the top so I wouldn’t have to worry about doing the coastal edge...

*Excel data to MapInfo.*
When I’m at the stage at creating the thematic map, how do I get MapInfo to
'see' my regions? From the tutorials I have watched, the link between map
and table has been 'US states names' Is there a way to name my polygons so
the table I create can see each other?
As you can probably make out, these are very much newbie questions, but I’m
have difficulty finding any resource online to offer guidance.
Thanks for any help!
